I know for a fact that none of those courses are on this list, but because none of them are easy to clear, I’ve decided to make these the 9 best courses to study in Nigeria.
9 Best Courses To Study In Nigeria 2022
1. Business Administration
ABA/BBA in Nigeria is not an easy course to study – it requires a lot of dedication, hard work and determination from its students.
ABA or BBA is an academic discipline dedicated to management, which means that its graduates need to possess both strong academic skills and business acumen.
There are basically two routes to study ABA/BBA in Nigeria, and they are: Direct Entry and Indirect Entry.
A Direct Entry student is required to have a minimum of 3 credit passes at WAEC, NECO and GTB/NECO levels respectively, while an Indirect Entry one just needs a credit pass at JAMB (with the cut-off mark very high for Direct Entry students).
Business administration program usually takes about 4 years in total to complete at the university.
2. Economics
Economics is one of the hardest disciplines to study in Nigeria, especially at the University level. While demand for Economists is increasing every year, the supply of willing Economics graduates for employment remains low.
This academic discipline is more about applying your knowledge of mathematics and science. It’s easy to get an economics degree in Nigeria, but it takes a lot of determination on your part before you have what it takes to be an economics graduate.
3. Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is also really hard to study in Nigeria, and that’s probably because the level of competition for students with Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.Sc.Eng) degrees is ridiculously high.
The program requires you to spend a lot of time in the classroom and make sacrifices – it won’t be easy! However, the good news is that Mechanical engineering graduates are highly paid and enjoyed a lot of job security in Nigeria at one point or another.
4. Computer Science
6+3 with a minimum of 10 credit passes at NECO, WAEC and JAMB respectively. Computer science is another discipline that takes about 4 years to complete, but it’s one of the best courses in Nigeria for those who are dedicated and focused.
5. Nursing
There are two routes to study Nursing in Nigeria, and they are: Direct Entry and Indirect Entry. Students who get Direct Entry usually take a minimum of 3 credit passes at WAEC, NECO, GTB and JAMB respectively.
They are required to write the JAMB Biochemistry and JAMB Practical Nursing exams with a minimum of 36 points. As an Indirect Entry student, you just need to have cleared WAEC, NECO and GTB with a minimum of credits at NECO, while doing the NQF Level 5 Vocational Programme with a minimum of 5 credits.
6. Agriculture
The Agriculture Department in Nigeria is also a very tough department, especially if you’re going for a B.Sc.Ag degree. They require you to spend about 8 years in the department if you want to be an Agriculturist graduate, and to write the JAMB Level 3 Agriculture Practical exams with a minimum of 35 points.
7. Mathematics
A minimum of 4 credit passes at NECO and GTB with a WAEC pass as well (minimum requirement).
Mathematics is a very tough course to study in Nigeria, and the percentage of people who write the National Matriculation Examination and the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board – JAMB who are unable to pass this course is quite high.
However, as a Mathematics student you will be paid handsomely for your skills.
8. Law
Law is another course offered by many Nigerian institutions with a high marketable value. This program takes a minimum of five years of University education.
Institutions that award degrees in Law are also known as Law Schools. To study Law in Nigeria, you need to have a relatively high JAMB score, as the course is also very competitive.
Lawyers are needed in courts, financial institutions, crime investigation institutions, and other firms that have to do with anything legal. Lawyers are involved in almost every sector of the country since they have to be backed by the law/constitution.
9. Accounting
Accounting is one of the hardest yet best courses to study in Nigeria because it takes a lot of dedication and determination to do well in it. Your professors will be tough on you, and it will take a lot of mental fortitude to make it through your program. However, if you can get past the challenges successfully, you stand to make a lot of money as an accountant.

10. English Language
English Language is a very tough thing to study in Nigeria because the University English Language requirement is always set at the highest level. The basic requirement is a pass at the HND level, but if you want any form of scholarship that requires English language in Nigeria, you’ll be required to have a bachelor’s degree. The degree will come with a language requirement as well.
A minimum of 6 credit passes at JAMB (preferably with a minimum of 5 in English), GTB, WAEC, GCE and NECO respectively. English Language is another course that is not only difficult to study, but also a very difficult one for employers to employ graduates for.

In this piece, we will be discussing about how to apply for a course in Nigeria and what are the requirements to make it into a university.
First, go to the JAMB website and click on the “Apply Online” website.
You’ll be redirected to the homepage of JAMB.
A message will appear: “Your browser is not configured to support this site’s security features.”
Just click on the “Got it.” button and continue to login.
After you have successfully logged in (or signed up), you’ll be required to fill in a form that contains your personal details like name, email address, phone number and other information.
Click on “Next.”
Click on “Start Application” and you’ll be redirected to a page that contains the courses being offered.
The page has two main sections: Courses and Special Requirements. We will start with the first one because it is easier to apply for a course in Nigeria if you know which course you want to study.
Click on “Apply for selected courses” and you’ll be redirected to the screen below:
If you have visited this website before, you will notice that some courses have been added since then.
Click on the “Apply for Selected Courses” (and not the “Add All Courses” button) and you’ll be redirected to the screen below:
There are two ways you can apply for a course, and it will depend on what you want to study. From left to right, we have: External Admissions and Internal Admissions. If you chose the latter, then click on “Internal Admissions.
There are two components to Internal Admissions, and they are: Admission Requirement (Fresh Students), and Admission Requirement (Returning Students).
Let’s start with the former.
You’ll be redirected to the page below:
For Fresh Students, click on the “Register for New Applicants” button. If you’ve read along so far, then you’ll notice that there’s an admission requirement for each of the courses being offered. These admission requirements should be met before you can apply for a course in Nigeria.
After reading through the admission requirements for a course, click on “Continue.”
You’ll be redirected to a page that contains an area for you to key in your academic credentials.
In the first box, key in your secondary school leaving certificate and key in the name of your institution.
In the second box, key in your NECO or WAEC result and then key in either NECO or WAEC. In this case, I’ve keyed in my NECO result.
In the third box, you should key in your JAMB result. Both your WAEC and NECO results are included here.
In the fourth box, key in what you have completed at the tertiary level (academically), and then key in your GCE/WAEC result.
The fifth box is for other relevant information about you, like where you’re from and a few questions to ask.
Click on “Continue.” You will be redirected to a page that contains some information about Makerere University.
Click on “Next.”
If you successfully applied for a course and met the admission requirements, your application will be saved. If you didn’t meet the admission requirement, your application will not be saved.
Now that we have applied for a course, let’s move on to Internal Admissions (Returning Students).
Just like with External Admissions (Fresh Students), click on “Internal Admissions” and then click on “Internal Returning Applicants.
This will take you to a page that contains the admission requirement.
It is similar to what was discussed in the previous section, but this time you’re already enrolled in the university.
Click on “Apply” and you’ll be redirected to a page that contains your details.
Click on “Continue” and then click on “Submit” and your application will be saved or rejected.
