In the United Kingdom, the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is equivalent to the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in the U.K.

University of Kent

The University considers students for foundation entry who have completed the SSCE (Senior School Certificate of Education), normally validated by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

University of Sheffield

An internationally recognized English language qualification, such as IELTS or equivalent, is required of all applicants. SSCE (WAEC) English C6 or higher is commonly accepted in place of IELTS or equivalent, however each department makes its own decision.

If you meet the admission requirements as a Ghanaian, Nigerian, or West African student studying abroad at the University of Sheffield with WAEC is very easy. You will need to get a C6 and above in English to escape taking an English requirement test such as IELTS. However, some departments will require you to present the IELTS so have it before applying.

The University of Manchester

Applicants with WASSCE results who intend to study in Manchester, however, must first complete their foundation program. Your findings do not have a direct entry. However, you must have a minimum of a B2 in at least five relevant topics connected to your chosen course to be accepted into the foundation year.

University of Birmingham

English language at grade C or above (or in numerical terms, grade 6 or above) in the WAEC SSCE is sufficient to meet the standard English language requirements.

The university warns students that meeting grade requirements does not guarantee admission but at least it puts you up for consideration.

University of Bristol

You can apply for undergraduate programmes either through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) or the Common Application.

Applicants with the Senior School Certificate combined with a successfully completed appropriate foundation/bridging programme will be considered for admission to Bachelor degree courses.
