It is important for a student who wants to write the 2021 SSCE Biology exam to know how examiner actually grades their paper/script. I have discovered that the best place one can actually the right answer to this, is your Biology teacher, or any other subject as it may apply.

2021 WAEC Biology Marking Guide

There will be three papers, Papers 1, 2 and 3 all of which must be taken. Papers 1 and 2 will be a composite paper to be taken at one sitting.
Paper 1 Will consist of fifty multiple-choice objective questions drawn from Section A of the syllabus. Candidates will be required to answer all the questions within
1 hour for 50 marks which is 25% of the total mark obtainable
Paper 2 Will be a 2-hour essay paper covering the entire syllabus and carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The paper will be in two sections: Sections A and B.
This section covers 35% of the total mark obtainable
Section A Will consist of ten short structured questions drawn from the common portion of the syllabus ( ie Section A of the syllabus). Candidates will be required to answer all the questions for 25 marks.
Section B Will consist of two questions from the common portion of the syllabus ( ie Section A of the syllabus) and two other questions from the section of the syllabus which is peculiar to the country of the candidate (ie either Section B or C of the syllabus). Candidates will be required to answer any three of the questions. Each question shall carry 25 marks.
Paper 3 shall be a 2-hour practical test for school candidates or 1 hour 30 minute alternative to practical work test for private candidates. Each version of the paper shall contain three compulsory questions and carry 50 marks. This takes the last 40% of the total mark obtainable
The questions shall be on the following aspects of the syllabus:
  1. One question on quantitative analysis,
  2. One question on qualitative analysis,
  3. The third question shall test candidates’ familiarity with the practical activities suggested in the syllabus.

2021 Standard WAEC Grading System

  • From 0 to 39  is F9 = Fail
  • From 40 to 44 is E8= Pass
  • From 45 to 49 is D7= Pass
  • From 50 to 54 is C6= Credit
  • From 55 to 59 is C5= Credit
  • From 60 to 64 is C4= Credit
  • From 65 to 69 is B3= Good
  • From 70 to 74 is B2= Very good
  • From 75 to 100 is A1= Excellent.
